About Vithunni Devasthanam

Saturn approached Lord Ganesha to say that the time had come to catch him. Lord Ganesha’s reply to Saturn was that he was a bachelor, lead a life like a yogi and what’s more is that his birth was not caused through physical union therefore does not carry any karma. He told Saturn that there was no point in catching Him.

Saturn rebuffed saying that he had to do his duty as assigned; that He must catch anyone and everyone when their time comes. Ganesha, the Lord of Supreme Intelligence said “Ok, as you are the God of Justice, you will keep your word by this virtue; I say that you can catch me when I permit”.

Saturn agreed to it and Lord Ganesha asked him to come back tomorrow. Saturn left and came the next day. Lord Ganesha again said “come tomorrow”. To this day, it is believed that everyday Saturn calls upon Lord Ganesha to catch him and Lord Ganesha gives him the same reply

According to legend, Shani is a devotee of Lord Shiva. As mentioned in the “Navagraha Pidahara Sthothram” of “Brahmanda Purana”, anybody who chants the following sthothra is relieved from all the ill effects of Shani.

The Greatness of Saturn: Shiva Gave Saturn His Supreme Surname

Saturn is the Lord of Justice and no one can question him while he is on duty. Shiva was so impressed by Saturn’s penance that he awarded him with the power to control the system of karma through his influence. Shiva the ‘Parameswara’ or ‘Supreme God’, gave him the name Saneeswara. No other planet has been given this status.

Since Saturn is the planet of trials and tribulations, it limits what one does by acting as a resistance against his or her best efforts. Saturn is the Task Master; however, the dense days of Saturn retrograde in Virgo have come to an end. Saturn can make a person know everything as He has the power to make an ordinary person a ruler. This knowledge doesn’t come easy as Saturn puts us through such tough experiences that we cannot forget the lessons in this lifetime.

His direct motion is the start to a new beginning and He will sweep out all of the intolerable elements, that are everywhere in everything. Saturn in Virgo is probably one of the easier Saturn influences to work with, since the planet feels relatively at ease in the Earth signs.

Worshipping Lord Hanuman and Kala Bairava: Lord Hanuman is said to have captured Saturn at one time and extracted a promise from him that he (Saturn) will not harm any of Hanuman’s devotees. Lord Hanuman also represents both Lord Siva and his consort Shakthi and so worshipping Him is like worshipping Siva-Shakthi. Similarly, worship Kala Bairava since He controls Kala (Time).
